If I compared myself, I would never have left the place
This is my before and after. Four years ago I decided to change, because I was very overweight and wanted to have more energy, even more so after the accident I had and that left me with some marks and sequels on my body – see more on this page about my story. I wanted to be the most beautiful and healthy version of myself, and I knew I could be.
It was not easy. But I did what it took to lose weight in good health – see below for tips on what I did during this period. But the determining step was to have in my mind the goal of losing weight for good. I knew what I wanted and I knew what I needed to do. I took a leap of faith. I decided. The second step was to understand that everything would happen in my time. If I compared myself with other people, I would never get out of place, because weight loss happens differently for each individual.
Comparison is a tricky thing. It can erode self-esteem. It puts intangible goals and you start to live in function of the other and not of the goal itself. The other is not a parameter. Of course you can have admiration for people who have achieved good results – I myself receive reports every day from people who are inspired by me. But don’t use someone else’s story as a parameter.
How to lose weight, anyway?
In short, there is no perfect recipe on how to lose weight that fits all people. You need to understand how your body works: which foods are nutritious, which ones make you fat easily, what proportion of nutrients you need, how many liters of water you should drink a day, how many hours of sleep, etc.
Consulting a nutritionist can be a great idea, as well as an endocrinologist. Do the necessary tests to check for missing or excess vitamins and minerals – this can compromise weight loss.
Powerful Tips
The following are some tips that were key for me:
- Use the scale and measure your results. Don’t run away from it!
- Also run away from objections.
- Decrease portions and have more meals a day.
- Do exercises from the beginning. Without them it will be very difficult to lose weight. From day one I opted for weight training. I have had a new lifestyle for 4 years now.
- I couldn’t step. Healthy and definitive weight loss is gradual.
- Have a weight loss goal. Then break this goal into smaller, weekly goals.
- Do what has to be done. You will only lose weight if you act.
- Get out of your comfort zone. Nothing happens there!
- Sleep 8 hours a day. Tired people do not lose weight!
- Check the vitamins in your body – without vitamin D, for example, you won’t lose weight. Not without proper hydration, either.
- Start today. Time will not wait for you!
Learn to model, and not to compare yourself
One way to understand how to lose weight is to be inspired by people who have had good results, but without comparison. Know where you want to go, how you want to look, how you will feel when this day comes. Visualize your process right now. But be realistic: look for examples, not parameters. Look for inspiring people who can serve as role models for your ideal.
